Social Work Intern – Empower K-8 Students

Location: Jumoke Academy (Job Placement at 1 or More of 3 Campuses) – Hartford, CT

Duration: 6-Month Program

Compensation: Stipend Provided Upon Completion

About the Opportunity:
Are you a current Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) student eager to gain real-world experience while making a meaningful difference? The Missing Piece (TMP) invites you to join our 6-month program supporting K-8 students at Jumoke Academy in Hartford, CT.

This unique opportunity focuses on Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) through small group sessions designed to uplift students facing trauma, behavioral challenges, and attendance issues.

What You’ll Gain:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate small group discussions around SEL and DEI.
  • Provide individualized support to help students overcome challenges.
  • Collaborate with TMP staff and school personnel to implement program strategies.
  • Track student progress and contribute to creating an inclusive school environment.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program.
  • Passion for working with children and addressing their social and emotional needs.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Availability to work onsite at one or more Jumoke Academy campuses.

Location:
Hartford, CT – Job placement will occur at one or more of the three Jumoke Academy campuses.

Mentor/Career Coach (4 Positions Available)

Position Overview:
As a Mentor/Career Coach, you will receive training through the Governors Prevention Partnership and be matched with programs designed to enhance your expertise and skills. This position requires a commitment of 15 to 20 weeks, which includes training hours, program implementation, and post-program reporting. It is ideal for college students and career professionals in healthcare, youth development, career advising, and social work who are eager to make a difference in the lives of young people. The role requires strong interpersonal skills, a commitment to community service, and the ability to inspire and guide others.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide mentorship and career coaching to youth and young adults, helping them navigate their personal and professional journeys.
  • Assist mentees in setting and achieving goals related to education, career development, and personal growth.
  • Facilitate workshops and training sessions focused on skills development, job readiness, and career exploration.
  • Collaborate with program coordinators to identify and match mentees with appropriate programs and resources.
  • Monitor and evaluate the progress of mentees, providing ongoing support and encouragement.
  • Build and maintain relationships with community partners and stakeholders to enhance program offerings.
  • Participate in post-program reporting to assess program effectiveness and gather feedback for future improvements.

Qualifications:

  • College students or professionals in healthcare, youth development, career advising, social work, or related fields are encouraged to apply.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and mentoring skills.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire youth and young adults.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new mentoring strategies and tools.
  • Experience in coaching, mentoring, or teaching is a plus but not required.

Position Overview:
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Administrative Assistant to assist the Executive Director and Director of Operations in managing tasks, improving workflows, and enhancing communication. The ideal candidate will be a problem-solver, able to take initiative, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, multi-faceted role. This position is open to college students and offers a flexible work schedule.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and coordinate active calendars for leadership, scheduling and confirming meetings
  • Facilitate seamless communication between internal teams and external partners
  • Assist with file organization and documentation following office protocol
  • Provide administrative support such as drafting emails and creating action-oriented reports
  • Create clear action steps from meeting notes to help administrators properly delegate tasks, distinguishing between high-priority and non-priority items
  • Conduct email follow-ups with partners, clients, and stakeholders to ensure timely communication and task completion
  • Support leadership with special projects and ad hoc tasks as needed to ensure smooth operations

Skills:

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace (Google Docs, Sheets, Calendar)
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively
  • Problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative
  • Comfortable with virtual communication and remote work tools (e.g., Zoom, Slack)

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in progress or equivalent experience (college students encouraged to apply)
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills
  • Highly organized with the ability to multitask and manage competing priorities
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace (Google Docs, Sheets, Calendar, etc.)
